Don't stand still...

With Hallowe'en fast approaching, it got me to thinking...

From a mindset perspective, where is the scariest place to be?

I believe it is to be in the same place for too long, not moving forward.

Your colleagues and friends with goals, visions, aspirations and motivation, wrapped in a sense of purpose, are leaving you behind; leaving you behind with nothing but your negative internal dialogue, which is potentially leaving you stuck and unable to move forward.

Maybe you even feel your heart sink as you see them disappear into the distance.

It's now that the lyrics to James Blunt's Wisemen kick in and you hear the line, "got to ask yourself the question, where are you now?" You sang it, didn't you?

You then start to question yourself, what are my goals? What is my vision, what are my aspirations? Where is my motivation and sense of purpose? Where am I now? The spiral deepens into a very dark place.

At this point, I have to contradict myself ever so slightly and say that for some people, it's ok to stay still. Some people need the stability and security and have no aspirations to further their career or do more than they already do. There is nothing wrong that if you are happy and fulfilled.

All of the above questions I can help you with...and much more, if YOU want to move forward, to be in a different place than you are today.

First off, we will work out where you want to be, then we can work on a fundamentally solid plan to help you get there from where you are today. We will look into all the variables that may potentially impact your journey.

We need to look at the decisions that need to be made to get you moving forward, for this we will use the equation E+R=O.

Event + Response = Outcome.

Using this we can make sure you respond to events and changes in the best possible way, ensuring a positive outcome.

We need to look into the feedback you get along the way, to make sure we are making the right progress and we are going in the right direction.

Confidence also needs to be instilled; as you gather momentum along your journey you need to celebrate the successes and take them with you, leaving behind the negatives.

Change should be seen as a positive, it should be embraced and I love nothing more than seeing others grow and helping them to achieve things they only dream of.

I'll leave you with a quote from former Chicago Cub coach Joe Madden "If you are not talking to a mental skills guy to get better, you're crazy..."
